This interview is part of our initiative to know our users take on our themes, web development and other things in general.
Today, we are interviewing Chris. Chris is a lead conversion manager at Fantastic Edge marketing. He came to know of our themes via one of his clients and has been “hooked” ever since. He eventually signed up for our club membership to have access to all our themes.
He started his first website using just HTML/CSS and moved to WordPress for his first personal blog.

A. Who are you and what do you do?
I’m Chris Gas, lead conversion manager and founder of Fantastic Edge Marketing. It’s my job to help small businesses grow with automated follow-up marketing and smart web design.
B. When did you start your first blog or website and how?
My very first website was for my high school science club. Back then it was hand-coded in HTML and made use of horrible graphics and frames! My first WordPress blog was my personal site, which was originally set up for a school project. Once WordPress matured beyond just another blogging platform, I started using it for just about every site I built.
C. How did you hear about us?
While doing research for a client project, I was checking out some sites they said they liked the style of. I was inspecting the source code of one that really caught my eye (don’t ask me the URL now- I forgot!) and noticed the WordPress theme they were using was called ‘Spike‘. After some searching around, I found MyThemeShop was the original author.
D. Why did you choose MyThemeShop?
After stumbling upon ‘Spike’ and finding your site for the first time, I noticed that unlike some paid theme sites that only have a couple of good options, MyThemeShop had an entire collection of top-notch themes- no filler! And that was back when you only had about 1/3 of the themes you have now.
E. Which MyThemeShop theme/plugin are you using and why?
Spike was my first one to use. I first thought I would just buy that one, and didn’t think it necessary to have the membership. But the more time I spent looking through your themes, the more I found that would be useful on future projects. I guess you could say I was hooked!
F. One thing that would make MyThemeShop better?
I would like to see better support for child themes. I know your average user might not be much of a developer, but for those of us who need to customize things a bit beyond what the options panel allows for, child themes must be set up. The first time I tried to do that with Spike I ran into some CSS issues and things with child page templates that weren’t working. Your options panel is great, and covers the bases for your average user, but when layouts need to be rearranged, it’s nice to know we can set up a child theme and customize away.
G. One tool or website you can’t live without?
H. How would you rate MyThemeShop on the scale of 10 for
- Support: 9
- Coding: 9 (would be 10 if setting up child themes were easier)
- Design: 10 (designs in your theme library have become more diverse! It shows your company listens to customer feedback.)
- Usability: 10
